What You’ll Walk Away With
A fully functional opt-in form connected to your email platform, a professional thank you page that delivers your lead magnet and sets expectations, and a complete technical setup that captures and delivers subscribers automatically — 24 hours a day, without your involvement.
L6M4.1
The Technical Bridge Between Traffic and Subscriber
Your lead magnet can be exceptional. Your traffic can be growing. But if the technical bridge between them is broken, unclear, or poorly designed, subscribers fall through the cracks.
The opt-in system is the infrastructure that makes lead generation automatic. Every step of the sequence needs to be set up correctly and tested thoroughly before you send any significant traffic to it.
The Subscriber Journey
1
Visitor lands on your page and sees the opt-in offer
2
Fills in their name and email and submits the form
3
Automatically added to your list and redirected to the thank you page
4
Immediately receives a confirmation email with their lead magnet
5
Enrolled in your welcome sequence automatically
6
Begins the relationship that eventually produces income
This module builds each component of that sequence.
L6M4.2
Component 1: The Opt-In Form
The input mechanism — where visitors enter their name and email to access your lead magnet.
Principle 1
Fewer fields convert better
Every additional field you add reduces your conversion rate. For most lead magnets, first name + email is optimal. Adding last name, phone number, or “how did you find us?” costs you subscribers for minimal benefit.
Principle 2
The button label matters
“Subscribe” and “Sign Up” are generic and passive. Benefit-focused labels convert significantly better:
Send Me the Guide →
Get Instant Access →
Yes, I Want This →
Download the Free Toolkit →
Principle 3
The headline above the form is your conversion driver
The form itself is just an input mechanism — the headline is what convinces people to fill it in. State the specific benefit, not just a description of the lead magnet.
Weak
“Subscribe to my newsletter”
Strong
“Get the Free AI Marketing Starter Kit — 30 pages of step-by-step strategies for building your first online income lever”
1
Go to Forms → Embedded Forms and click Create Embedded Form.
2
Name your form — e.g. “Homepage Opt-in — AI Starter Kit”.
3
In the form editor, add: First Name field (required) · Email Address field (required) · Custom submit button label (e.g. “Get Instant Access →”).
4
Under Settings → After Signup, select “Show a custom thank you page” and enter your thank you page URL.
5
Under Settings → Groups, assign new subscribers to your main subscriber group.
6
Save and copy the embed code.
1
In Elementor, add an HTML widget to your page.
2
Paste the MailerLite embed code into the widget.
3
Save and preview — the form should render correctly.
4
Test it: submit a real email address and verify you receive the confirmation.
💡
Alternative — MailerLite WordPress Plugin: Search “MailerLite Official” in the WordPress plugin directory, install and activate, then use the MailerLite block or shortcode to embed forms anywhere on your site. Simpler than the HTML widget method.
L6M4.3
Component 2: Double Opt-In vs Single Opt-In
When a visitor submits your opt-in form, they either join your list immediately (single opt-in) or receive a confirmation email asking them to click a link first (double opt-in). Both have legitimate use cases.
Single Opt-In
+Higher subscriber volume
+No confirmation step means fewer drop-offs
−Lower list quality; some fake emails get through
−Slightly higher spam complaint risk
Best for: fast list building, high-trust audiences, immediate delivery is critical
Double Opt-In
+Higher list quality — only confirmed, real emails
+Better deliverability; lower spam rates
+Required by law in some countries (GDPR)
−Lower subscriber volume
Best for: long-term list health, GDPR markets, niches where engagement matters more than volume
Recommendation for most students
Start with single opt-in. You are building a US-based audience where double opt-in is not legally required and the volume advantage is meaningful at the list-building stage. Switch to double opt-in if deliverability issues emerge or if you expand to markets where it’s required.
💡
To configure in MailerLite: go to Forms → [your form] → Settings → Confirmation and toggle between single and double opt-in.
L6M4.4
Component 3: The Thank You Page
The page a subscriber lands on immediately after submitting the form. One of the most underutilized pages in online marketing — most people treat it as an afterthought and waste a high-intent, high-attention moment.
A subscriber who has just opted in is at peak interest and peak trust. They made a small commitment, they’re anticipating the resource, and they’re briefly captivated. Your thank you page should capitalize on that moment.
Anatomy of a High-Converting Thank You Page
Section 1 — Above the fold · Confirmation and Delivery
Immediately confirm the exchange and tell them exactly what happens next.
“You’re in! Check your inbox for an email from [your name] with your [lead magnet name] — it should arrive in the next 2 minutes.”
→If it’s a PDF: include a direct download button on this page as well as email delivery — faster access, better first impression
→Add a note: “Not seeing it? Check your spam folder and mark it as ‘not spam.'”
Section 2 — Below the fold · The Next Step
Do not waste this page on a simple thank you. Use the trust moment to introduce your next step — without being pushy. Choose one option:
Option A
Social follow
“While you’re waiting — follow me on YouTube for weekly tutorials.” Zero-commitment ask, grows your social following simultaneously.
Option B
Related resource
“Since you’re interested in [topic], you might also find this article helpful:” → link to your highest-value blog post.
Option C
Soft offer (Month 2+)
Once you have a product or affiliate recommendation: “If you’re ready to go deeper, here’s the course I recommend:” → your affiliate link or product page.
Option D
Invite engagement
“I read every reply — hit reply and tell me: what’s the #1 thing you want to figure out this year?” Improves deliverability and starts the conversation.
1
Create a new WordPress page titled “Thank You — [Lead Magnet Name]”.
2
Set the page to No Index in Rank Math — you don’t want this page appearing in search results.
3
Open Elementor and design Section 1: brand logo or name, bold confirmation headline, delivery instruction, PDF download button.
4
Design Section 2: one clear next-step CTA. Keep it simple — 2 sections maximum.
5
Publish the page and copy the URL.
6
Enter this URL in MailerLite under After Signup → Custom Thank You Page URL.
L6M4.5
Component 4: The Lead Magnet Delivery Email
The first message your new subscriber receives — and the one that sets the tone for everything that follows.
Delivery Email Structure
Subject line
Specific and expectation-confirming: “Here’s your [Lead Magnet Name], [First Name] 🎉”
Opening
Personal and warm — not corporate. “Hey [First Name] — welcome, and thank you for signing up.”
Delivery
The actual resource. A direct download link to your PDF, or clear instruction if it’s a course (“Your first lesson is below — expect Lesson 2 tomorrow morning”).
What’s next
One specific instruction: “I’d love to know what you’re working on — hit reply and tell me what your biggest challenge is right now.”
Expectation
One sentence: “Every week I send one practical tip for building online income with AI — no fluff, always actionable.”
P.S.
Prime real estate — people read postscripts. Use it for one soft mention of a relevant resource or to reinforce your credibility.
💡
PDF hosting tip: Don’t attach your PDF directly — email attachments trigger spam filters. Host on Google Drive (set to “anyone with the link can view”) and link to it in the email body. In MailerLite, this is Email 1 in your welcome automation, triggered immediately on subscription.
L6M4.6
Testing Your Complete System
Before sending any meaningful traffic to your opt-in, test every component of the system end-to-end using a real email address.
Fix every issue before launching. A broken delivery system loses subscribers at the most critical moment in the relationship — right after they’ve trusted you with their email address.
Complete System Test Checklist
Submit the opt-in form with a test email — does it redirect to the thank you page?
Does the thank you page load correctly and include the download link?
Does the confirmation/delivery email arrive within 2 minutes?
Does the email render correctly on mobile? (Check on your phone)
Does the PDF download link work and open the correct document?
Is the subscriber added to the correct group in MailerLite?
Does the welcome automation trigger correctly? (Check the automation log)
Do subsequent welcome sequence emails arrive on the correct schedule?
Are all affiliate links in the lead magnet working and pointing to your Pretty Links URLs?
