What You’ll Walk Away With
An active email account, your first list set up, an opt-in form on your site, and a clear understanding of why your email list is the most valuable asset you’ll build in this course.

8.1

Why Email Is Still the Most Valuable Asset Online

Average Email Marketing ROI
$36
for every $1 spent
No other channel — not social, not paid ads, not SEO — consistently matches this.

When someone gives you their email address, they’re inviting you into a space they check every single day. Unlike social media, there’s no algorithm deciding whether your message reaches them. You send it, they receive it.

📱

Social media followers

Can vanish overnight if your account is suspended or the algorithm shifts.

📺

YouTube subscribers

Can disappear if the algorithm stops recommending your videos.

✉️

Your email list

A spreadsheet of real people who asked to hear from you. You own it completely — take it to any platform, any tool, any situation.

Every income lever in this course benefits from an email list. The bigger and more engaged your list, the more money every single lever produces. Start building it from Day 1 — even before you have a product or significant traffic.

8.2

Choosing Your Email Platform

Your email platform is where you store subscribers, build opt-in forms, write emails, and set up automated sequences. Here’s an honest comparison of the options worth considering.

MailerLite

Recommended

The platform used on hussledad.com and the one we recommend for most students starting out.

✓
Free up to 1,000 subscribers & 12,000 emails/month
✓
Drag-and-drop builder + automations on free tier
✓
Landing page builder included
✓
Integrates with WordPress, Elementor, and course tools
✓
Paid from $9/month as you grow

Best for: Beginners who want a clean, affordable platform they can grow with.

ConvertKit (now Kit)

Creator-focused

The platform of choice for many professional creators and bloggers.

✓
Very generous free tier — up to 10,000 subscribers
✓
Excellent automation and audience tagging/segmentation
✓
Landing page builder included
—
Slightly less beginner-friendly than MailerLite. Paid from $25/month.

Best for: Creators who anticipate growing fast and want advanced segmentation from the start.

ActiveCampaign

Advanced

The most powerful option — and the most complex. No meaningful free tier. Paid from $29/month.

Industry-leading automation, built-in CRM, best-in-class deliverability. Steep learning curve for beginners.

Best for: Advanced users who need sophisticated automation. Not recommended as a starting platform.

Brevo (formerly Sendinblue)

SMS + Email

A solid alternative if you need SMS marketing alongside email. Free tier: 300 emails/day. Paid from $25/month.

Good deliverability. Includes SMS marketing. Less intuitive interface than MailerLite.

Best for: Users who want SMS + email in one platform.

Our recommendation: Start with MailerLite. It’s free up to 1,000 subscribers, clean to use, and has everything you need to build your foundation. Migrating to ConvertKit or ActiveCampaign later is straightforward.

8.3

Setting Up Your MailerLite Account

1
Create your account

→ Go to mailerlite.com and click “Sign up free”
→ Enter your name, email address, and create a password
→ Verify your email address
2
Complete your profile

MailerLite requires basic information to activate your account — standard practice to prevent spam.

→ Enter your website URL and company/brand name
→ Enter your physical address (required by CAN-SPAM law — use a PO Box if preferred)
→ Describe what your newsletter will be about
3
Confirm your account

MailerLite may review new accounts before granting full access. This usually takes a few hours to 24 hours. While you wait, familiarise yourself with the dashboard.

4
Set up your sender details

Go to Settings → Sender identities and add your “From” name and email address.

Recommendations
→ From name: Your name or brand (e.g. “Ezra from Hussle AI”)
→ Email: Use your domain email (ezra@hussledad.com) not Gmail — more professional, better deliverability

8.4

Creating Your First List and Opt-In Form

Creating a list

In MailerLite, go to Subscribers → Groups and create your first group. Name it something descriptive — “Hussle AI Newsletter” or “General Subscribers.” This is where all new subscribers will be stored.

Building your opt-in form
01
Go to Forms → Embedded forms and click “Create embedded form”
02
Keep it simple: first name field + email field + one button
03
Write a clear, benefit-driven button: “Send Me the Guide” or “Yes, I’m In” — not the generic “Subscribe”
04
Add an incentive statement above the form: “Join 500+ readers getting weekly AI income tips — free.”
05
Under Settings, assign the form to your subscriber group. Click “Save” to get your embed code.
Embedding on WordPress
01
Copy the embed code MailerLite provides
02
In WordPress, open the page in Elementor and add an HTML widget
03
Paste the embed code into the widget. Save and preview.
💡
Alternatively, search for “MailerLite Official” in the WordPress plugin directory — it makes embedding even simpler.

8.5

Writing Your Welcome Email

The welcome email is the single most important email you’ll ever send. It goes out the moment someone subscribes — when they’re most interested and most engaged.

This is not the place to sell. This is the place to deliver on your promise, introduce yourself, and set expectations for what’s coming.

Welcome Email Template
Subject line

Here’s what you asked for, [First Name] 👋
Opening

Hey [First Name],

Welcome — and thank you for subscribing. I’m [your name], and I run [site name].

Deliver the promise

[Deliver on your lead magnet promise here. If they signed up for a free guide, link to it. If they signed up for a newsletter, tell them what to expect and how often.]

About you

A little about me: [2–3 sentences about your background and why you built this. Keep it human and personal.]

Set expectations

Here’s what you can expect: [Describe what you’ll send, how often, and why it’s worth reading — e.g. “Every Tuesday I send one actionable tip for building online income with AI tools.”]

The reply ask ★

Hit reply and tell me: what’s the #1 thing you’re trying to figure out right now with your online business? I read every reply.

💬

“Hit reply and tell me…” is not throwaway

Replies signal to email providers that your messages are wanted. More replies = better deliverability. And the answers are pure audience research gold.

✂️

Keep it short

Welcome emails should be warm and human, not overwhelming. You have plenty of time to show depth in future emails.

🚫

No hard sell

You just met them. Build the relationship first.

8.6

Setting Up Your Welcome Automation

Rather than manually sending your welcome email every time someone subscribes, you set it up once as an automation and it runs forever.

In MailerLite
1

Go to Automations → Create automation

2

Choose trigger: “When subscriber joins a group” → select your group

3

Add a Delay step: 0 minutes (send immediately)

4

Add an Email step — write or paste your welcome email

5

Give the automation a name and activate it

One hour of setup work, running indefinitely. Every new subscriber automatically receives your welcome email — day or night, whether you’re working or sleeping. This is your first taste of what automated income systems feel like.

8.7

Email List Best Practices From Day One

Starting these habits early will save you from expensive mistakes later.

Never buy an email list.

Purchased lists have terrible engagement rates, damage your sender reputation, and can get your account banned. Every subscriber should have actively opted in.

Send consistently.

An email list you don’t contact goes cold fast. Send at least one email per week. Consistency builds the habit — for you and for your audience.

Clean your list regularly.

Every 90 days, remove subscribers who haven’t opened any of your last 10 emails. A smaller, engaged list is worth far more than a large, unresponsive one — and most platforms charge by subscriber count.

Value before promotion.

For every promotional email you send, send 2–3 value-driven emails first. Build trust before you make asks.

Use a real “From” name.

Emails from “Ezra at Hussle AI” get opened more than emails from “hussledad.com.” People connect with people, not brands — especially early on.

Test your subject lines.

Subject lines determine whether your email gets opened or ignored. Test different approaches:

“I stopped doing this and my income doubled” — curiosity
“3 affiliate programs paying 40% recurring commissions” — specific
“Honest truth about month 1” — personal

8.8

How AI Helps With Email Marketing

Email is one of the levers where AI provides the most immediate value. Here are the exact prompts to use.

Writing email subject lines
“Write 10 subject line options for an email about [topic]. My audience is beginners learning to make money online. Mix curiosity-driven, specific, and personal approaches.”
Writing full email drafts
“Write a 300-word email to my subscriber list about [topic]. My brand voice is conversational, direct, and encouraging — not hype-y or pushy. End with a clear call to action to [desired action].”
Building a welcome sequence
“Write a 5-email welcome sequence for new subscribers to my newsletter about building online income with AI. Email 1: welcome. Email 2: key concept. Email 3: personal story. Email 4: practical tip. Email 5: soft offer for . Under 300 words each. Conversational tone.”
Re-engagement emails
“Write a re-engagement email for subscribers who haven’t opened my emails in 60 days. Create curiosity in the subject line. Remind them of the value I provide and give them a reason to stay. Include a one-click opt-in to stay subscribed.”

Claude is particularly strong for email writing — the output tends to sound natural and human rather than AI-generated. Use the RCTF framework from Module 2 for best results.
